Not the singing kind, the kind you put around your finger! I have been shopping for a while with my fiancee and have found some cobalt rings that I really like. But nobody has any information on them. I want to know what kind of headache I can expect with a Cobalt ring. I don’t like the look and problems of Tungsten and White Gold is too pricey for my taste (with a wedding coming up).
Cobalt rings share the same qualities as platinum, palladium or white gold: it is made the same way (different ingredients, of course) and is just as bright. The only difference is that the alloy mixture is much stronger (it won’t scratch or scuff like precious metals). FYI: Cobalt alloy was originally used in the medical field like dentistry and hip/joint replacements due to their durability and non-allergic properties. It wasn’t until very recently when jewelry designers started using them in rings. In terms of headaches, it won’t break if you drop it (it’s solid metal), if that’s what you were referring to. You’ll be able to pass it down to your kids. Not all cobalt is the same though, so be sure to ask for one that’s entirely hypoallergenic and made entirely in the USA. You can always find out more info at your local mall, either at a Helzberg or an independent retailer that carries it.

So I’m washing my car last night, I know lame @$$ washing my car on New Years Eve. Anyway I’m washing away and my ring slips off and head for the drain. Luckily the drains are big pits that drain from the top so the ring is still in there. The pit is 5′ deep and I went headlong into that muck and was barely able to reach the sludge at the bottom. So I basically need some kind of tool to aid me in bringing up the crap from the bottom to search for the ring. That or a really really powerful magnet since the rings composition is Tungsten Carbide. Anyone have anything they might recommend?

It is unfortunately a self-service or that might be possible.
It would be nice if you could get hold of a neodymium magnet ….but today being New Years I don’t know where you would go.
Home Depot sells a magnet sweep {magnet on a pole} for picking up screws, nails etc on the floor ….they are open today.
Find a large old speaker and attach something to that magnet ……
